Galena is the natural mineral form of lead sulifide. It is the most important lead or mineral.
Galena is one of the most abundant and widely distributed sulfide minerals. It crystallizes in the cubic crystal often showing
octahedral forms. It is often associated with the minerals sphalerite, calcite and fluorite.

Up above are some pictures that show what Galena looks like.

Class - Sulfides
Color - Steel Gray
Streak: Steel-gray
Luster: Metallic turns dull after exposure of air.
Chemical Formula: PbS
Crystal System - isometric
Composition: Lead Sulfide. May contain impurities, such as silver, arsenic, antimony, and copper.
Features: Steel gray color, extreme heaviness and fine cleavage.
Cleavage: 1,3 - Cubic. May exhibit parting on octahedrons. Also perfect in 4 directions.
Variable Formula: ( Pb,Ag,As,Sb,Cu)S
Hardness- 2 1/2-3
Fracture - uneven
Crystal Forms and Aggregates: Crystals, which may be cube, octahedrons, or a combination of the two frequently occur. Dodecahedrons are far less common. Also occurs massive, grainy, fibrous, platy, and as veins.
Transparency: Opaque
Specific Gravity: 7.4 - 7.6 (Pure= 7.57)
Tenacity: Brittle
Other names besides Galena: Galenite. Lead Glance
Striking Features: Steel gray, extreme heaviness, and fine cleavage.

Galena Is used in things such as batteries, bullets, gasoline, and painting. There are many more as well.

Abundant:present in great quantity
octahedral:shaped like an octahedron and has eight sides
Dodecahedrons:a solid figure having 12 faces

It is found in medium and low temperatures ore veins, in igneous and sedimentary rock and disseminated through sediments. Open cavities are frequent in these types of environment. So crystals are common and well developed.
